The Salvation Army still fundraising for 2026
ALPENA – The Salvation Army of Alpena announced on Friday that it has not yet met its $190,000 fundraising goal for 2026. As of Jan. 9, the organization has raised $173,901.
The Salvation Army stated in a Friday press release that it needs to raise an additional $16,098 to reach the $190,000 goal.
“Financially, this year has been hard for a lot of people which makes it hard for people to feel they can donate,” Major Prezza Morrison said in the release. “For us it means more requests for services which is why it is important for us to reach our goal.”
According to The Salvation Army, the organization served 240 families and individuals in Alpena County. In total, 536 children received Christmas gifts and 947 people were served.
“With the increase in numbers from the previous year it is a clear sign we will need to provide more services in the community this year,” Morrison said. “That is why reaching our goal is so important.”
According to the release, The Salvation Army assists throughout the year with food and personal care items, utility and housing assistance, clothing and household supplies, emergency disaster services, winter wear, back to school undergarments, and referrals and collaborations with other agencies and churches.
“Since the funds come from and stay in Alpena, they provide programs that are specific to our community,” The Salvation Army stated in the release.
“We can serve the numbers we serve because of the generosity of our neighbors,” Morrison said in the release. “Your care is shown in your giving, and we are very grateful.”
Monetary donations to The Salvation Army are accepted via mail or in person at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center in Alpena. Donations can also be submitted online at salmich.org/alpena or via telephone, (989) 358-2769 ext. 6513.
