Poetry at the Alpena museum

Brian Schorn

ALPENA — On Thursday at 6 p.m. join the Besser Museum for a surrealist poetry reading and discussion with ACC Art Design instructor Brian Schorn. You are welcome to arrive a little early to view Salvador Dali’s woodblock prints on display in the new exhibit “The Divine Comedy re-Envisioned – Navigating the Hero’s Journey”.

The selected poems presented in this reading will offer a glimpse into the major poets during Surrealism’s evolution from the 1910s throughout the 1960s. Additionally, a selection of contemporary poets who continue to be impacted by the strange juxtapositions of Surrealism will also be featured.

Schorn’s first book of poetry and prose, Strabismus, published by the experimental press Burning Deck, is a journey into seeing words through images. His writing has been published in many journals nationally and internationally, including translations into Danish. His writing has appeared in journals alongside well-known Surrealists such as David Lynch and Georges Bataille.
