ALPENA — Sabrina Horton, 22, charged with one count of first degree child abuse in Alcona County, had her bond lowered to $200,000 cash/surety/10% on Tuesday.

Horton’s bond was originally set at $450,000 cash/surety/10%.

At her arraignment on Jan. 12, First Appearance Attorney Justin Wilson argued for a reduction in Horton’s bond, but Alcona County Magistrate Courtney Bachelor denied the request.

Horton’s case is linked to that of Nickolas Allen Corey who was charged with one count of first degree child abuse on Jan. 7 in the 81st District Court. His bond is set for $500,000.

According to a press release from the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office, an infant child has extensive injuries from suspected child abuse. The investigation into the suspected child abuse began on May 24.

At Tuesday’s hearing, Horton’s Defense Attorney Devin Pommerenke said that he has not received any discovery yet, as he had just been appointed as Horton’s attorney over the weekend.

Pommerenke said he believes he will be prepared in time for Horton’s preliminary examination which is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Jan. 28.

Pommerenke then argued for a reduction in bond, saying that she has had no contact with the co-defendant, she has no criminal record, she is not a risk to the community, and she will show up for all court appearances.

Pommerenke addressed Horton’s pregnancy as well. She is around seven months pregnant with an April 1 due date. That child will likely be removed from her care after delivery.

Judge Laura Frawley reduced Horton’s bond to $200,000 cash/surety/10%. If released from jail on bond, Horton must stay within the limits of Alcona County except for pre-natal appointments. She will also wear a GPS tether.
