Crane in court for probable cause conference
Violet Crane
ALPENA — Violet Crane, 21, appeared in the 88th District Court on Tuesday for a probable cause conference. Crane is charged with one count of unlawful driving away, which is a felony offense.
Crane was arrested at the scene of a recent police involved shooting in Alpena, but her charges are not related to that matter.
There have been no offers from the prosecution yet, Defense Counsel Ron Bayot said. He will be demanding an examination unless an offer is made.
Bayot requested a personal recognizance bond or a lower cash bond for Crane. 26th Circuit Court Judge Ed Black, who is currently substituting for 88th District Court Judge Alan Curtis, denied the request, stating that due to her criminal history, evidence that she may be a danger to herself and others, and substance abuse issues, Crane’s $10,000 cash or surety bond is reasonable.
Crane was arrested in the morning on Dec. 22 and arraigned that same day. Crane is charged for an incident that occurred on Nov. 15 with a warrant issued on Dec. 15 according to MiCourt.
She was a passenger in an allegedly stolen vehicle and was arrested when the vehicle was pulled over during a traffic stop, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Alyssa Miller said.
Judge Black confirmed to The News, and during Crane’s arraignment, that Crane was the passenger in the allegedly stolen vehicle which was involved in the officer-involved shooting on Monday, which killed a 35-year-old Alpena man.
Crane’s next hearing, a preliminary examination, is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 in the 88th District Court.
