Winter Parking Hours Reminder
The Alpena Police Department would like to remind city residents that vehicles cannot be parked on city streets between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., from Nov. 1 through April 1. This prohibition is necessary so that the city can thoroughly plow streets during the winter months. Vehicles that are parked on a street during the prohibited time period can be ticketed, and if the vehicles interfere with the snow plowing, those vehicles can be impounded at the owner’s expense. Please help the City with its snowplowing efforts by not parking in the street during the prohibited time period.
Overnight parking of vehicles in city parking lots is prohibited, except for the Carter Street parking lot along the Thunder By River near the Holiday Inn Express. This lot always allows for overnight parking.
Also, resident parking is allowed by permit issued by the Downtown Development Authority.
Police officers may allow citizens to park a vehicle on the street during this period if extenuating circumstances exist. Citizens who believe they have extenuating circumstances must contact the police department. Unless the department grants permission to park on the street, the vehicle may be ticketed and possibly towed.
