Artists shine during holidays at Thunder Bay Art Gallery

ALPENA — As the Christmas shopping season kicks into high gear, one local gem is offering a refreshing alternative to crowded malls and mass produced gifts. The
Thunder Bay Art Gallery, in downtown Alpena, is buzzing with festive energy as artists and shoppers alike embrace the spirit of community and creativity.
This holiday season, the gallery is showcasing its annual Holiday Treasures collection, featuring handcrafted ornaments, winter themed paintings, and one-of-a-kind gifts that reflect the charm of northern Michigan. Unlike big box retailers, the co-op offers shoppers a chance to meet the artists behind the work.
“People love hearing the story behind a piece,” says artist and co-op member Corky Gates. “It makes the gift more meaningful and it keeps money in our community.”
The gallery has extended its hours through December and added festive touches. Hand- painted holiday greeting cards, gift tags, and artist-made ornaments will be available.
The Thunder Bay Art Gallery will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Saturday.
Founded by a group art lovers 16 years ago, the Thunder Bay Art Gallery operates on a shared ownership model. Each member contributes not only their artwork but also time and effort to run the gallery — from curating exhibits to greeting customers.
