Donation goes to ACC scholarship in memory of Trooper Larry Forreider Memorial Scholarship

In lieu of spending money on each other for Christmas gifts this year, the family of the late Trooper Larry Forreider is contributing $500 for the upcoming academic school year to match the scholarship that was established in his name with the Alpena Community College Foundation.

“This is a way for our family to honor Larry and pay his legacy forward to the next generation of law enforcement officers,” said Betty Thom, former wife of Trooper Forreider. “Next to family, Larry valued the power of education and continued taking classes while working in the Michigan State Police.”

Thom is a resident of Alpena. She and their children, Mark (Judy) Forreider of Novi, and Lisa Shanley (Greg Midkiff) of Mattawan, made the decision as a family over the Thanksgiving holiday.
