Wilsons to celebrate 70th anniversary

Richard E. Wilson and Rose Marie Wilson will celebrate their 70th anniversary on July 29.

Richard was born on April 19, 1930, and Rose was born on January 17, 1931. They met at the Giant Supermarket where Richard was a stock boy and Rose worked as a cashier.

They were married on July 29th, 1950, at Sacred Heart Parish in Mount Pleasant. They honeymooned in Niagara Falls, Canada.

Richard was drafted in 1952 and they moved to California. After serving in the Marines they returned to Mount Pleasant where Richard worked for the Coca-Cola Company for 10 years. They began building their home on a plot of land between Rose’s two brothers and down the road from Rose’s family’s dairy farm.

In 1960 Richard injured his back so they traveled in a trailer across the Midwest while Richard worked as a surveyor. In 1961 he was hired as a draftsman for Michcon. Rose gave birth to two daughters — Julie and Jane.

In 1969 Richard was transfered to Alpena as the office manager until May of 1992. Rose worked various jobs but loved her job as secretary for Chuck Ingels of Edward D. Jones.

Julie married Mike Mack and Jane married Timothy Modrzynski. Richard and Rose have four granddaughters: Krystal (Mack) Carter, Tiffany (Mack) Bueler, Elizabeth (Modrzynski) Wojda and Alysia Modrzynski. The Wilsons have three great-grandchildren: Violet June Ballmer, Owen Michael Ballmer and Emma Jane Wojda.
