Dementia workshop Monday at Alpena County Library

Learn how to make your organization dementia-friendly at a free workshop from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Alpena County Library.

The workshop, presented by Dementia Friendly Services and the City of Alpena, will cover how to recognize dementia, difficulties people living with dementia encounter, simple ways to make dementia less difficult, how to collaborate with community partners, and what a dementia-friendly community looks like.

Almost seven million Americans are living with some form of dementia, and over 200,000 of them are in Michigan.

Class of 1953 monthly luncheons canceled

All future Alpena High School Class of 1953 monthly luncheons are canceled due to poor attendance, which includes the Oct. 14 luncheon that was scheduled at The 19th Hole. If you have questions, call Jeanne at 989-356-0606.

Bridge results announced

Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club results have been announced for this week, with Beverley Rousseau and Marcy Sherman tying for first place with Gordon Bennett and Marge French. In second was the duo of Dale Middleditch and Linda Ferguson, followed by Jan Kane and Ron Young in third.

Hinks Haunted Trail Oct. 17 and 18

The Hinks PTO presents the Wicked Woods Haunted Trail from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 17 and 18 at Hinks Elementary, 7667 U.S.-23 North, Alpena. Family-friendly hour is from 6 to 7 p.m. The cost is $5 per adult and $3 per child ages 12 and younger. Payment is by cash only. KC Sizzle and Smoke food truck will be on-site.

Friends of Plaza Pool Euchre Tournament Oct. 19

The Friends of Plaza Pool Euchre Tournament for ages 18 and up will be held on Sunday, Oct. 19 at the F.O.E. (Eagles Club) at 1960 M-32 West, Alpena. Doors open at noon and play begins at 1 p.m. The $20 entry fee includes food. There will be a 50/50 drawing, door prizes, and a $1 entry for high game. All proceeds benefit the Alpena Plaza Pool.
