GriefShare starts Monday at Immanuel
A 13-week GriefShare program for those who have lost a loved one will start at 5 p.m. on Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alpena. The program will be facilitated by Brent Finzel. If you have questions, call Carol at 989-354-3758.
Sewing Club Monday at Alpena County Library
Sewing Club will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Alpena County Library. No sewing experience? No problem! This club is open to all skill levels — newbie to expert, ages 10 and up. Bring your sewing machine, supplies (scissors, straight pins), and project to work on. Space and guidance will be provided. For those without a sewing machine, there are three machines on site for use. Registration is required for this class. To register, call Barb Brege at 989-255-8969.
Poetics Lab programs Sept. 20 and 21
The Poetics Lab will host the Prominent Poet Series with two upcoming events with Cody Walker and Jeremy Proehl.
The first is an open mic night at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 at PIF Cider in downtown Alpena. Then, a reading with Q&A will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Granum Theatre at Alpena Community College. This is a hybrid event, offered in-person and online. Registration is required for the Granum Theatre event.
Both events are free, and the community is welcome to attend.
These events are presented by the Poetics Lab in partnership with PIF Cider, with sponsor support from a Walmart Spark Good Grant and an ACC Foundation Granum Grant.
Plaza Pool Euchre Tournament Sept. 21
A Euchre Tournament sponsored by the Friends of Plaza Pool will be held on Sept. 21 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1960 M-32, Alpena. The entry fee is $20 plus an optional $1 entry for high game, a 50/50, food, and door prizes. Doors open at noon and play begins at 1 p.m. For more information, contact Judy Ewing at 989-884-2129.
Alcona County Library hosting programs
Celebrate fall at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, with Donut Daze. Enjoy cider and donuts, participate in a kids’ craft and an adult craft, and spend time with friends and neighbors at this family-friendly event. At noon, a drawing will be held to reveal the winner of the Friends of the Library Quilt Raffle. The quilt is currently on display at the Harrisville branch located at 312 W. Main St. Proceeds from the raffle, along with donations, help fund library programs for all ages throughout the year. Call 989-724-6796 for more information.
Then, at 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, the library will host a Pantry Preparedness program. Join instructor Leisa Sutton to learn practical tips on how to prepare and stock your pantry so you’ll be ready for future events and emergencies.
