Young women enjoy ‘Royal Procession’
The Young Women of the Alpena Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints enjoyed a “Royal Procession” at the start of the year. Each young woman learned about their worth as a beloved daughter of God by donning a sash and reading a script representing characteristics of a princess such as virtue, loyalty, honesty and the love of scriptures. After a few talks given by the leadership and songs about their true identity, each young woman walked down the red carpet and was presented a crown and a poem.
The young women program gives opportunities to lead and serve at each activity. At this activity, Emma Stone beautifully conducted the meeting and made crown cookies with multicolored sprinkles for the event. Hayden Motley made pink crown cookies, directed the music and offered a closing prayer for the dress rehearsal. Graycee Wilkinson made three large platefuls of lavender crown cookies. McKenna Noel added greatly to the joy of the group by sharing her enthusiasm and friendship.
Other activities the young women have participated in include:
An escape room to discover talents, creating a family tree, an indoor sports day with youth from many cities in Northern Michigan, a Christmas party in Gaylord, and preparing a meaningful Easter Egg hunt for local children. The next activity will feature guest speakers, a beautiful young couple, and games with the theme of wholesome dating.
The activities are supported by Sunday lessons held at 11 a.m. Both the lessons and weekly activities are planned with the vision of helping the young women look to Christ as an example in their lives. Any interested young women ages 12 to 16 in the area are welcome to attend. Activities are held from 6 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday night at 124 E. Washington Ave., Alpena for the next month.
