Downtown flower planting Saturday

Join the Alpena Downtown Development Authority and the Friends of Alpena Area Gardens from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday to plant flowers around treeboxes and get downtown ready for summer. Volunteers should meet in Culligan Plaza with garden gloves and small shovels.

Blessing of the Bikes Saturday

The Ninth Annual Alpena Blessing of the Bikes will be held on Saturday, with bike registration starting at 10 a.m., and the Blessing of the Bikes led by Pastor Leslie Nye at 11 a.m. After a group ride with five stops, a pig roast by The Smoking Pig will be held at 5 p.m. at the Eagles Club, along with a silent auction and raffle. The community is welcome, and the cost is $12 per plate.

Purr Creations Craft Show Saturday

Purr Creations Craft Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at McRae Park, 1301 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena. The day includes raffles, food, and fun, with all proceeds to Northeast Michigan Trap Neuter Return.

Revolution Dance Spring Recital Saturday

Revolution Dance presents its Spring Recital at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Alcona High School Auditorium, 51 N. Barlow Road, Harrisville (just south of Lincoln). Tickets will be available at the door for $8 per person.

Forestry program Tuesday at Grand Lake Library

Presque Isle and Cheboygan County Forester Jacob Grochowski will lead a program at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Grand Lake Library.

He will explain his role as a forester, share programs to help landowners, discuss forest health, and answer questions. This program is limited to the first 35 people and will be held at 18132 Lake Esau Highway, Presque Isle.

AHS Class of 1960 planning meeting May 29

The Alpena High School Class of 1960 will hold a planning meeting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 at Maplewood Tavern on French Road. Microchip clinic for dogs and cats May 31

Second Chance Animal Shelter will be hosting a low-cost microchip clinic for dogs and cats from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at the shelter, 1110 DeVere Drive.

No appointments are needed. The cost is $25 per pet. Dogs must be on a leash with a well-fitting harness or collar, and cats must be in a crate or carrier.

The Two Towers program June 6

Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary Education and Outreach Specialist Sophie Stuart will present a program at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 6 at the Grand Lake Library.

Stuart’s program is called The Two Towers: An Archaeological Biography of the Garrity Family in Presque Isle, Michigan. This program is limited to the first 35 people. The library is located at 18132 Lake Esau Highway, Presque Isle.
