Kinney grew up on a lake in Maine in the summers in a family with an older brother who was very excited about boats and sailing, and a dad who always opened opportunities for his five kids to try new things. Not much money, but lots of ways to experiment with old row boats laying around, bed sheets, visqueen, and newly created polyester fiberglass construction. That led to many hours learning how a sailboat works, how to make it faster, and many disasters along the way. As Kinney matured, he became an excellent sailor who has competed in many sailboat races, sailed the Maine coast – well, actually, the whole east coast, and through the Caribbean as well as cruises in Croatia, Canada, and Greece. Eventually, he decided to build his own cruising trimaran using the new WEST (wood epoxy saturation technique) system. You will learn a bit of all of these parts of the love which Kinney holds for sailing. Kinney has been active with ALL since the early 2000s, serving on the board and as president.
