Friends Together to host cancer screening education session Tuesday

ALPENA — Friends Together, a local nonprofit cancer support organization, will be hosting a free community learning event regarding cancer screenings on Tuesday.

“We know that early detection and intervention of cancer can lead to better outcomes,” said Friends Together Programs Coordinator Malinda Amlotte. “The Friends Together team wants to share this education and encourages everyone in the community to stay up to date on routine screenings.”

“Learn with Friends — Cancer Screenings” will feature guest speaker Ashton Lewandowski, MD, sharing information about routine cancer screenings. Find the answers to these questions and more:

¯ What screenings should be done?

¯ At what age should screening start?

¯ Do screening guidelines change based on a personal or family history of cancer?

Dr. Lewandowski practices family medicine is currently completing his residency, seeing patients at the Ossineke location of Alcona Health Center.

This free event is open to the public and will be at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Friends Together, 105 Prentiss St., Alpena. Pre-registration is requested by calling 989- 356-3231.

Friends Together offers their “Learn with Friends” educational series on the second Tuesday of each month. It is not only designed to educate and inform people about cancer and all the related areas involved in diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship but so much more. Topics will cover a variety of things including finance, health, fitness, and life skills.
