Spratt Church hosting dinner on Thursday

ALPENA — The public is invited to a soup, sandwich, dessert, and beverage dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Spratt United Methodist Church, 7440 M-65 South in Lachine (one mile south of Werth Road). The cost is $12 per adult. Children ages 12 and younger eat for free. The dinner is presented by the Spratt United Methodist Church ladies group.

Alpena Republicans to meet on Thursday

ALPENA — The Alpena County Republican Party will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Alpena Community College Center Building, Room 106.

Bridge results noted

ALPENA — Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club results for this week have been announced, with Loretta Reynolds and Jackie Kennedy in first place. Second place went to Bev Rousseau and Marcy Sherman, followed by Carol Beatty and Connie Middleditch in third. The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on Mondays. K of C Tootsie Roll drive Oct. 11-12

ALPENA — The Knights of Columbus Council 529 of All Saints Parish will be holding their annual Tootsie Roll sale to support the mentally impaired on Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12.

K of C representatives will be stationed at Walmart, Perch’s IGA, Save-A-Lot, and Fitzpatrick Hardware from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Council 529 would like to thank the community for their generous support last year, raising over $5,500. They are hoping to surpass that amount this year.

All donations will go toward Pied Piper, NEMROC, SNAP (Special Needs Adult Programs), and the Religious Education for the Developmentally Disabled (REDD) program of All Saints Parish.

Metz story swap Oct. 12

POSEN — The Metz Fire story swap will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 at St. Peter Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 2045 E. Metz Highway.

Coffee and cookies will be provided. Bring a friend and come hear and tell stories about the Metz Fire of 1908, which decimated the village.
