∫ Art in the Loft, on the third floor of the Center Building at 109 N. 2nd Ave. in Alpena, presents its “SummerView 2024” Exhibit, featuring the artwork of nearly 40 artists on display and for sale now through Aug. 31. ∫ Dragonfly Art Gallery, 116 E. Main St. in Harrisville, is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. August visiting artists are Karen Cracchiolo and Chuck Schroeder. The Dragonfly Art Gallery was founded in 2009 as a cooperative nonprofit, owned and run by the gallery’s member artists. The gallery’s mission is to provide local artists with the opportunity to display and sell their work, while also offering the residents of and visitors to Alcona County a venue for enjoying art. The work to be completed includes providing and installing a new bike rack; cleaning and organizing the maintenance garage; spreading mulch in flower beds and garden; power washing the front of the homeless shelter that faces Chisholm Street; enclosing the back deck around the recycling and trash cans to keep them critter protected; and assembling a playscape with an attached slide in the children’s yard for homeless children staying at the shelter.

The Fair Board Famous Steak Fry will start at 5 p.m. at the pavilion, as well as a kids’ bike and fishing pole giveaway at the Home Arts Building. ∫ Wednesday is National Lighthouse Day, and the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center will host a special program called “Michigan’s Haunted Lighthouses” by Dianna Stampfler, author of the book with the same name. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the lecture begins at 7 p.m. Since 1997, Stampfler has been presenting lively and upbeat programs about Michigan’s lighthouses, historic sites, and paranormal destinations in her home state of Michigan.

∫ The 41st Annual Alpena Antique Tractor and Steam Engine Show starts Friday and continues Saturday and Sunday at the Alpena Antique Tractor and Steam Engine Showgrounds, 6850 French Road, Alpena. Gates open daily at 9 a.m., and admission is free. This year’s event will feature Case Tractors. There will be daily demonstrations with vintage farm equipment, food concessions, live music by the Country Poorboys at 7 p.m. on Friday and at 8 p.m. on Saturday. A tractor parade will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and at noon on Sunday. Bean soup will be served at 5 p.m. on Saturday. A pancake breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

∫ V-J Days continue today in Hillman, with breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the VFW Post 2356 Hall, for people participating in the parade, provided by the VFW Auxiliary. A white elephant and bake sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Augustine Church. Hillman Library will host a book sale from 10 a.m. to noon. Brush Creek Mill will host craft vendors and booths from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Hometown Heroes Military Display and gift shop will also be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parade lineup starts at 11 a.m. at Patchwood Plaza, and the VFW Grand Parade will take place at noon. Sparky the Fire Prevention Dog will be inside the fire station from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also at the Hillman Fire Hall, there will be brats and hot dogs, refreshments, bounce house, fire hose, Pop with a Cop, and tours, after the parade until 3 p.m. Burger Bash will start at noon at the Emerick Park Pavilion. Hot dogs and brats will be offered at the VFW Hall after the parade, by donation. Children’s games will be offered at Hillman Fire Hall after the parade until 6 p.m., featuring balloon pop, football toss, lollipop game, lucky door key, pick a duck, pop ring toss, tricycle race, and a dunk tank. Crystal and Steve will provide free face painting from noon to 4 p.m. Horse carriage rides will be offered for $5 per ride after the parade until 6 p.m. The Country Poorboys will play music from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Hi-Way parking lot. A drawing for the grill raffle will be held at 2 p.m., sponsored by the VFW Post 2356. A rubber duck race by the Knights of Columbus will be held at 3 p.m., for $5 per ticket, on the west side of Brush Creek Mill. Butch Runyon will play a free concert from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hillman Bandshell, and Godfreys will play from 7 to 9 p.m. The Hillman Chamber of Commerce will be selling hot dogs, drinks, V-J Day T-shirts and hats, from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Hillman Bandshell. A car cruise will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. by the Wheels Car Club, at Thunder Bay Resort. Fireworks will be at dusk at Emerick Park.
