ALPENA — As summer kicks off, the Besser Male Chorus is ready to perform its annual spring concert series.

Celebrating its 77th year of singing, the chorus is excited to showcase songs from various themes. From patriotic selections to choices about rivers around the world, the chorus hopes to brighten your day with its melodies. Over the year, the group has grown in numbers and talents, with a little sparkle from some unique instruments.

The first concert will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the New Beginnings Church in Hillman. The chorus enjoys this venue and is happy to be back in Hillman.

Following up is the matinee concert at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alpena. This concert will be honoring the chorus’s longtime member, Eldon Grabow, and thanking him for his years of service.

To round out the concert series, the chorus will return to the First United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Alpena.

Each of these concerts are by freewill offerings, and are followed up with a meet-and-greet with members of the Besser Male Chorus. As usual, the chorus wants to thank all of the venues, the support members that help the chorus to excel, and various businesses such as the Besser Company, Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union, and Sports Unlimited that help support their efforts.

After a couple of months’ rest, the chorus will again start gathering to rehearse for the Christmas concerts. If you are a male age 18 or older and are interested in checking out the chorus, please call 989-464-7464.
