Snowdrifters clean up U.S.-23

Courtesy Photo Members of the Alpena Snowdrifters take a moment to pose for a photo during their cleanup of U.S.-23 near Birdsong Bay on Thursday.

In addition to maintaining 90 miles of snowmobile trails, volunteers of the Alpena Snowdrifters also take pride in maintaining a portion of U.S.-23 in Alpena.

On Thursday, some members of the Alpena Snowdrifters Club met to do their biannual Adopt-A-Highway cleanup along Birdsong Bay, sponsored by the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Volunteers braved the cold and breezy conditions to collect numerous bags of trash along the same sides of the same road that they maintained since MDOT started the program in 1990.

Club volunteers will once again conduct cleanup operations in the fall.
