TOPS Open House Dec. 5

ALPENA — TOPS Club Inc. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), the nonprofit weight-loss support organization, will hold an open house at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at First Presbyterian Church, 1600 W. Chisholm St., Alpena

The open house is free and open to the public. Activities at the open house will include history of TOPS and its founder Esther Manz, celebration of TOPS 75 year anniversary, and a meet and greet with current members.

Founded more than 70 years ago, TOPS is the only nonprofit, noncommercial weight-loss organization of its kind. TOPS offers an individual approach to weight loss and overall wellness, with thousands of chapters in the U.S. and Canada. Members learn about nutrition, portion control, meal planning, exercise, and more at weekly meetings. Consistent group support, health education and recognition are all key components to successful weight management.

Visitors to a TOPS chapter are welcome to attend their first meeting free of charge. TOPS is open to men, women and children, ages 7 and older. (No child care is provided at meetings.) New TOPS members may choose one of three discounted packages. Annual renewal dues are $37 in the U.S. and $49 in Canada. Chapters may charge nominal fees to cover operating costs — usually $5 per month in the U.S. and $8 in Canada.
