Alpena Peace Community concert draws crowd

ALPENA – Community members came out on Sunday for the Alpena Peace Community concert held at First United Methodist Church in Alpena.
Performers of all ages and a variety of genres provided music for a crowd of about 80 people to enjoy, including an audience participation piece at the end when the sanctuary filled with united voices for “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”
Musicians included Sharon Koperwas singing two solos; Alpena High School choir students Gabriella LaCross, Lily Spigelmyre, Alayna Krey, and Melody LaCross, accompanied by Julie Wood; Alpena High School jazz trio Tyler Cloft, Mason Hinkley, and Liam Kieliszewski; Charles Madison singing and playing guitar; Tom Ferguson “Dr. Tom” singing and playing piano; The Besser Male Chorus, led by MaryAnn Hubbard and accompanied by Nicholas Stone; MaryAnn Hubbard playing a flute solo, accompanied by Julie Wood; and MaryAnn Hubbard and Cheryl Bates playing a flute duet, accompanied by Julie Wood. Hubbard led the performers and audience in the moving finale as well.
The Rev. Bruce Michaud served as master of ceremonies. He and other members of the Alpena Peace Community committee planned and organized the concert. Other committee members include Carol Skiba, Janice Boboltz, Deborah Farrar, Maggie Michaud, Darby Hinkley, Leslie Kirchoff, Stefanie Huffaker, and Jim DesRocher.
Alpena Peace Community’s mission statement is: “Believing that Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness are the rights of ALL people, the Alpena Peace Community aims to provide community events that promote goodwill among ALL people.”
