ALPENA — MyMichigan Health Foundation has named Bernie and Nancy Lamp, and their family, as the honorary race chairs for the Alpena Development Council’s 22nd Annual Aliferis Memorial Race.

The Lamp family has been selected due to their ongoing commitment to living a healthy lifestyle and their commitment to MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. Bernie and Nancy lead by example of living a healthy lifestyle for their children and grandchildren. Nancy is an avid swimmer at the Plaza Pool, plays tennis on a regular basis as a member of the Alpena Tennis Association and enjoys walking. Bernie had been an active runner for more than 30 years including many 5K and half-marathon races. He also enjoys mountain biking and cross-country skiing. All his children and grandchildren lead active lifestyles with various hobbies, including golf, soccer, basketball, running and walking. They love to spend time outdoors at the family cabin in Lachine, and water skiing, swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding at their Grand Lake cottage.

Bernie and his family have participated in numerous events at the Aliferis Race.

“My perspective is that it not only is a fundraiser for the hospital, but it’s a fun day for families,” said Bernie. “The race provides opportunities for people of all ability levels. There is competitiveness to it, but the events also keep the family fun aspect. There is no other race like it in our area.”

The 22nd Annual Aliferis Race, hosted by the Business Relations Committee of MyMichigan Health Foundation’s Alpena Development Council, will be held Saturday, Sept. 2. Race headquarters and registration will be located under the tent on the corner of Chisholm Street (U.S.-23) and Johnson Street, on the campus of MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.

Events this year include a half-marathon, an 18.5-mile bike race, a 6.5-mile bike tour, a 5K run/walk and the family-friendly 1-mile run/walk. Event registration fees range from $20 to $35 per person, per event.

“Our sincere thanks to the Lamp family for accepting the invitation of Honorary Chairs for the Aliferis Race this year,” said Ann Diamond, fund development director, MyMichigan Health Foundation. “They are a perfect example of the purpose of this event — enjoying the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle as an individual, as a family and as a community. We certainly look forward to seeing them at the starting line again this year.”

Find race information at www.mymichigan.org/race. Those who register will receive a T-shirt and a chance to win several prizes, which will be drawn during the awards ceremony after the race. Individuals must be present to win.

All proceeds from the race, which has exceeded $547,000 over the last 20 years, will continue to benefit the Aliferis Scholarship Fund, the Alpena Cancer Center, patient enhancement projects and new technology at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
