Alcona County Library announces July programs

HARRISVILLE — Alcona County Library will host a variety of programs this month. For more information, call the library at 989-724-6796.

On Thursdays in July, Community Walking Club for everyone meets at 9 a.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

On Thursdays in July, Family Movie Matinee is at 1 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. Enjoy a newly released DVD and movie-style buttered popcorn. Call 989-724-6796 for details about this free program.

Today at 3 p.m., those in grades 9 to 12 are invited to attend Too Cool for School! Choose your own book to read, meet with friends, eat snacks, discuss your book, and play games until your guardians have to drag you out! Meet at the Harrisville branch.

Friday, July 7 is Popcorn Friday! Come to the Alcona County Library in Harrisville and enjoy a free bag of movie-style buttered popcorn, while supplies last. Don’t forget to check out a movie while you’re there!

On Fridays in July, Storytime and craft for children is at 10:30 a.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

On Monday, July 10, join the library’s new Cookbook Club, where cooking is not just about satisfying hunger; it’s an art form that brings people together and creates lasting memories, meeting at 5 p.m. at the Harrisville branch. Whether you’re an experienced chef or a beginner in the kitchen, this club welcomes individuals of all skill levels who have a passion for cooking and a desire to learn and experiment with new flavors.

On Tuesdays, July 11, 18, and 25, practice ukulele with other confident beginners from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. Confident beginners will know several chords and are eager to become familiar with playing in a group. The ability to read music is not required.

On Tuesday, July 11, Ukulele Lessons for Adults and Teens are from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. The ukulele is easy to learn! The ability to read music is not required. Check out a uke at the library or bring your own. Please call 989-724-6796 to register.

On Wednesday, July 12, get up close and personal with Birds of Prey through live animal presentations by Hawk Hill Raptors at 1:30 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. On Thursday, July 13, Kitty Donohoe brings “Bunyan and Banjoes” to the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library at 5 p.m. This will be a lively and delightful program that presents the history of Michigan through folk songs and stories about the “mitten” state for all ages. Kitty is a warm and engaging performer and brings the audience along with her, encouraging all to sing along. This event is sponsored by Inspiration Alcona.

On Tuesday, July 18, The Alcona Book Club will meet from noon to 1 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. The selection for July is “Where the Forest Meets the Stars” by Glendy Vanderah.

On Tuesday, July 18, Knitting Klub and Crochet meets from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. All ages and levels are welcome.

On Friday, July 21, Special Hero Storytime and Craft for kids will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Harrisville branch. Join us at the local library for an exciting and educational event as emergency workers showcase their vehicles to inspire and educate children. Experience the thrill of sirens and flashing lights as firefighters, police officers, and paramedics proudly display their trucks, cars, and ambulances. On Monday, July 24, teens and adults are invited to Craftomania! This program is from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.
