Stuff the Blue Goose

The Michigan State Police will have their annual “Stuff the Blue Goose” toy and monetary donation event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday in the parking lot of Walmart between the two doors. Buy any toy and drop it off at their vehicles throughout the day. Last year, volunteers emptied all their vehicles four times. Help them provide toys for youth in Alpena this Christmas season.

Tim Hart celebration on Christmas Eve

Tim Hart is a well-known and loved bell ringer for The Salvation Army. To many, he is a symbol of Christmas. He rang bells at Neiman’s for over 24 years, then moved to Perch’s when Neiman’s closed. He has been ringing for a total of 26 years.

This year, due to health reasons, he is not able to ring more than once a week for a short time. The Salvation Army would like to honor Hart for his years of service as a bell ringer.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, the Salvation Army would like to celebrate Hart by making that day “Tim Hart Volunteer Bell Ringer Day.” To honor him, they would like to fill every location the whole day with volunteers. That means nine locations with two shifts of two hours for the full day. That should be easy to fill and show Tim how much the community appreciates his years of service.

Kettles will be out until Christmas Eve. You can also give by phone by following instructions on our signs on the kettle stands. Monetary donations are also accepted via mail or in-person at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center at 722 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena, MI 49707, online at www.salmich.org/alpena or via telephone, by calling Major Prezza Morrison at 989-358-2769.

The Salvation Army is grateful for the community’s continued support.
