VFW 2496 Auxiliary hears updates

ALPENA — The regular meeting of the VFW 2496 Auxiliary was presided over by President Darryl McQuarrie at 6 p.m. on Oct. 12, with 14 members in attendance. There were no new apps for membership. The secretary minutes and treasurer report were read and approved, pending audit which needs to be done before the end of October. Tammy read the bingo reports from August and September, and donated $2,000 plus proceeds from the canteen.

A request from the Sunrise Mission was received asking for a donation to cover Thanksgiving dinners, and was approved. Bills were paid from the six pak account to cover repairs to plumbing. A committee report from Americanism stated Oct. 13 is the birthday of the Navy, and that flag pins are always placed above the heart and higher than any other pins.

The cemetery flags were removed, taking three members a total of four hours, and 56 need to be discarded, so more will need to be purchased before next year.

Two members attended two days at Boyne Highlands Fall Conference and made donations to several chairmanship booths. A new item on the standing rules was approved.

A craft bazaar will take place in the hall starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Linda Millard asked for help and cupcakes for Oct. 25 to support the Halloween party for her special friends group.

Nancy announced that this November is the 100th anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and that she donated 18 scarves to Operation Gratitude.

Veronica has been making blankets to donate to Toys for Tots and delivering items to schools and police/fire stations.

The lounge is having a costume Halloween party with karaoke on Oct. 31.

After the closing ritual was conducted Darryl adjourned the meeting at 7:08 p.m. The next meeting is at 6 p.m. on Nov. 9.
