VFW Post 2496 Auxiliary hears updates at October meeting

The regular meeting of the VFW Post 2496 Auxiliary was presided over by President Darryl McQuarrie 6 p.m. on Oct. 13 with 16 members attending.

The secretary and treasurer reports were given and approved. Tammy presented the bingo reports from the last three months and made a donation. Darryl presented a bill for the cost of his gas and motel to attend fall conference at Boyne Highland.

Mary Talaska, legislative chairman, strongly encouraged everyone to vote on Nov. 3. A thank-you card from the Forgotten Eagles was read. A vote was taken to accept the revised standing rules and they were approved.

Updates were given on cemetery flag removal, the spaghetti dinner, road clean-up and attendance at Fall Conference.

In new business the charter was draped for sister Norma Smith who passed on July 29.

Trustees were reminded that the quarterly audit is due before the end of October. Information about the new Community Outreach Program was relayed and members voted to accept this program.

Members were given the opportunity to order shirts with the Auxiliary insignia to wear while volunteering.

A donation was made to the Sunrise Mission for Thanksgiving dinners.

Ayla requested a donation for the children’s Christmas party and it was approved. Several Friday night dinners are planned to raise money for the different VFW entities. The Auxiliary discussed having their dinner Dec. 4.

After closing ceremonies were conducted the meeting was adjourned by President Darryl at 7 p.m.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 10.
