ALPENA — Last year’s Juried Art Winner, Linda Drean, is exhibiting her artwork in the Trelfa Gallery now through Oct. 31 at Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan.

Linda Drean started out taking some tole painting classes in the 1980s and had to stop when her husband came down with multiple sclerosis. She took care of him until he passed away in 2013.

Tole painting is the folk art of decorative painting on tin and wooden utensils, objects and furniture.

After her husband’s passing, Drean decided to try painting again. She took a couple art classes here and there but is mostly self-taught. Besides painting she also enjoys drawing, wood-working, and landscape design. Drean is a member of the North East Michigan Artists’ Guild, East Shore Art Guild, and Dragonfly Art Gallery.

Her winning piece in the 2019 juried art show was “Horse and Dog.” The solo exhibit started on Sept. 5.
