While the Presque Isle Lighthouses were not open for climbs this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no shortage of visitors to the lighthouses or participation in the Presque Isle Township Museum Society’s Lighthouse Photo Contest. From Aug. 1 to 22, 39 photographers submitted 91 beautiful photos of the New Lighthouse (1870) and 1905 Keeper’s House and the Society is excited to announce the winners.

The People’s Choice Award, determined by the most likes on the Society’s Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/presqueislelighthouses/) is “Winter at New Presque Isle Lighthouse,” by Tom Sovereign. That same photograph won the first place juror’s award as well.

For the juror’s awards, the four jurors (all members of the Museum Society) carefully considered the submissions and ranked each photo for its originality, lighting, composition, point of view, and adherence to theme.

The second place juror’s award went to Randy Butters for his photograph titled, “Herald of Eos.”

Third place was earned by Dennis Norton for “A Foggy Sunset.”

Honorable mentions went to “Late Afternoon Sunburst,” by Timothy Payne, and “Shine On,” by Susan Friedrich.
