Senior Center January events planned

The Alpena Senior Citizens Center has many events planned for January, in addition to their regular weekly programming.

Today and every Thursday, double deck pinochle is at 12:30 p.m., and needle craft group is at 1 p.m.

This Friday, Widow’s Club is at 10:30 a.m., for those who need a place to cry, laugh, or just talk with others who understand.

This Saturday is a Euchre Tournament, with meal and registration from 5 to 6 p.m. and play beginning right at 6 p.m. Admission is $15 per person and includes the meal. You do not need to be a senior to participate. This tournament is paying four places, 50/50.

On Mondays, the senior center has low impact exercises at 9:30 a.m., led by instructors who are certified by the Arthritis Foundation, and euchre at 12:30 p.m.

On Tuesdays, spitzer is at 12:30 p.m.

On Wednesdays, the senior center has low impact exercises at 9:30 a.m., led by instructors who are certified by the Arthritis Foundation, and card bingo at 12:25 p.m.

On Thursday, Jan. 9, an Early-Stage Alzheimer’s support group meets from 1 to 2 p.m., for those living in the early stages of dementia. Call BJ or Annie to sign up.

On Thursday, Jan. 9, don’t miss an evening of live music with “Carole & Company.” Dinner is from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and entertaiment is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The menu includes Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, peas and pears. The suggested donation for those over age 60 is $3.50. The charge is $7 for those under age 60.

On Fridays, the senior center has low impact exercises at 9:30 a.m., led by instructors who are certified by the Arthritis Foundation, Taiwan Maj Jong at noon, and single deck pinochle at 12:30 p.m.

On Monday, Jan. 13, the center will host “Step-By-Step Organizing” at 10:30 a.m. with professional organizer Doris Puls. Call BJ to reserve a spot.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, 501 River Tours has a casino bus tour going to Odawa Casino in Petoskey. Arrive at the senior center at 8 a.m. to check in before the bus departs. The bus will return around 5 p.m. The cost is $40 per person. Call to reserve a spot.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, a card party will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., for $5 per person.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, the Alpena Senior Citizens Center will host its annual Denim & Diamonds fundraiser at the Alpena Knights of Columbus Hall, 1880 Hamilton Road, from 5 to 11 p.m. Proceeds will benefit programs at the center. The event will feature a cash bar, dinner, entertainment by Wayne Kendziorski and the KopyKatz, a chance raffle, live and silent auction, 50/50 and more. Tickets are $40, available at the center.

On Sunday, Jan. 19, Sunday Lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with breakfast frittata, biscuits and gravy, and strawberry shortcake. The suggested donation for those over age 60 is $3.50. The charge is $7 for those under age 60.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, Hopeful Journey is at 1 p.m., for women age 55 and older raising relative children in Alpena County. To sign up, call BJ or Annie.
