Upcoming Community Education classes at ACC

Alpena Community College Community Education presents the following upcoming classes. Registration is required for all classes by calling the Alpena Volunteer Center at 989-358-7271.

¯ Monday, Oct. 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Seafood Cooking for the Holidays with Jessica Krawczak. In this class, learn tips on how to prepare grilled shrimp, shrimp scampi, and hot crab dip with toasted baguettes. You’ll learn great techniques for enhancing flavor — from cooking seafood for a crowd to cooking an elegant holiday seafood dinner for two. Fee is $35.

¯ Mondays, Oct.21 and Oct. 28 (2 sessions) from 6 to 8 p.m.: Snowman Stained Glass with Alexis Werda and Lynn Beaudoin of My Glass Wings. In this hands-on class, learn how to create your own personalized stained glass snowman encased in a 6-inch ring. This class is perfect for beginners. This is a two-night session requiring attendance to both sessions. Seating is limited to 10 students. Fee is $35, which includes all materials.

¯ Tuesdays, Oct. 22, 29, and Nov. 5 (3 sessions) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Grant Writing 101 with Dawn Stone, Dean of Workforce Development of TAACCCT Grant at ACC. In this three-session class, learn how to develop the skills to execute successful grant applications for any organization. This series will provide comprehensive information about the granting process and address critical aspects of writing a fundable proposal. This series is offered in ACC’s popular “Lunch Bites” for convenient, timely, valuable information and includes lunch. Fee is $95.

¯ Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Hand-Crafted Soap — the Natural Way with Kira Bixel, co-owner of Bixel Family Farm. Learn step-by-step how to make a batch of cold process soap while learning a brief history, safety tips, practices, proper handling of sodium hydroxide (the basic chemical process of soap), color, scents and additives. Each student will take home two bars of seasonally scented soap. Limited to 10 students. Fee is $30, which includes all materials.

¯ Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Got Game? Venison Inspirations with Gerald and Janet Lucas, owners of Lucas Catering. In this demonstration class, Gerald and Janet share an evening of great new wild game cooking ideas. Venison is tender, juicy, and delicious when properly prepared, and its nutrition surpasses many other meats. You’ll enjoy various samples of deliciously prepared venison entrees. This is an all-encompassing opportunity to cook, eat and learn. Fee is $30.
