Veterans breakfast today

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is offering a free breakfast and financial protection presentation for veterans from 9 to 10 a.m. today at the monthly Alpena Veterans Coffee Hour at Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center, 500 W. Fletcher St. in Alpena.

FASD support group

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) support group will meet at 4:30 p.m. today at the Partners in Prevention office located in the office wing of the First Presbyterian Church in Alpena. Call 989-356-2880.

Spratt dinner tonight

Spratt United Methodist women will have a dinner featuring soup, salad, sandwich, dessert and beverages from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight, for $10 per adult, $5 per child ages 6 to 12, and free for those 5 and younger. The church is located on M-65 almost a mile south of Werth Road.

Negwegon slideshow

Friends of Negwegon State Park are presenting a year-in-review slideshow at 6 p.m. tonight at Alcona Township Hall, 5576 U.S.-23 in Black River.

FOP show tonight

The Fraternal Order of Police Show featuring Jonathan LaChance is at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Boys and Girls Club of Alpena. Proceeds go to FOP sports programs and ACC scholarships. Tickets are $19.50 per family (two parents and up to three children), $12 per couple, or $6.50 per single.

Micro Adventures tonight

“Michigan Micro Adventures, Volume 2” will be showing at 7 p.m. tonight in the Sanctuary Cinema Series at Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center. Adventure enthusiasts Gary and Ely Irving are back with a new season, highlighting four locations in Northern Michigan for outdoor sports fans.

Film fest in RC Fri.-Sun.

The Manhattan Short Film Festival will be screening 10 short award-winning films for three consecutive days at Rogers City Theater, Friday through Sunday. Then audience members can cast their votes online for Best Film and Best Actor.

Poetry night at Brush Creek Mill Friday

Brush Creek Mill in Hillman hosts “Free Verse,” An Evening of Poets and Poetry, at 7 p.m. Friday, sponsored by Brush Creek Writers. Students and adults are welcome to read their poetry or that of others. Donations will benefit the Student Writing Contest.
