Aid By the Dozen has pizza party

A pizza party was hosted by Darlene Robarge at her home for the monthly meeting of the Aid by the Dozen group.

The monthly donation went to a local hospital patient. Carol Kelly won the cake provided by Joyce Murphy, who also sent cards of sympathy and get well. Receiving secret pal gifts were Chris Dubey, Catherine Murphy, Kay Ross, Geri Skiba, Donna Anderson, Mariette Jore and Maxine Gagnon, who also won the hostess gift.

The evening concluded with Carol, Chris and Catherine auctioneering the white elephant sale, which, along with monthly dues, enables the group to provide monthly donations throughout the year. Carol will host the next meeting on Sept. 30.

Garden Club learns from Thomas

The Alpena Garden Club met at the 19th Hole for its September meeting. After lunch, the room was filled with excitement as Doreen Thomas of Violet and Mae Flower Farm made her presentation. As Thomas spoke, she explained and completed a beautiful bouquet of flowers, which was then auctioned off to the members. She then answered gardening questions.

Plans were finalized for a new garden bench to be placed at the Duck Park. Serving on the committee were Marge Granlund, Linda DeWyre, Peggy Kerr, Rita Losinski, and Susan Szcukowski.

Next month’s meeting will take place in Rogers City on Oct. 7, hosted by Judy McFalda.
