Local students earn honors,

degrees from Central Michigan Univ.

Local students were named to the honors list and graduated from Central Michigan University in May.

Riley Appelgren of Hillman graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Science degree and a place on the president’s list for high academic achievement.

Rachel Gerrie of Atlanta earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Dana Molands of Lewiston earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree.

Kyle McLaren and Andrea Taratuta, both of Hillman, were named to the honors list.

Alicia Korff, Timothy LaPointe, and Jacob McDowell, all of Lewiston, also earned places on the Central Michigan University honors list.

Alpena’s Fisher, Hanna semifinalists in National Merit Scholarship contest

Alpena High School students Matthew Fisher and Emeline Hanna have been named semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.

On Wednesday, officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million to be offered next spring.

More than 90% of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
