Lunch Bunch today

The League of Women Voters of Alpena County invites anyone interested to Lunch Bunch, an informal monthly lunch discussion of current issues and other topics of interest.

The luncheon is at noon today at the Alpena Golf Club, 1135 E. Golf Course Rd.

Reservations are not necessarey. A State Convention report will follow the luncheon at 1 p.m. for LWV members and anyone interested.

Swiss steak dinner today

A Swiss steak dinner will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at Alcona Masonic Lodge, 316 E. Traverse Bay, Lincoln.

The public is welcome. The cost is $12 per adult and $6 per child 12 and younger.

This family-style dinner include Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, green beans or corn, a roll and dessert.

Dinners are held on the third Friday of the month, May through November.

Scott’s Walk 1 p.m. Sat.

The Ossineke Eagles Ladies Auxiliary would like to help a gentleman who recently lost the use of his legs and ability to continue his life as an active outdoor enthusiast.

Scott’s Walk will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles, 6848 S. U.S.-23 in Spruce. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of a sports-friendly wheelchair, which would help Scott regain an important part of his life.

To walk, or sponsor someone walking or to donate, call 989-471-5047, or drop by the Ossineke Eagles, approximately one mile north of Chippewa Point Grocery.

Besser family day Sat.

The Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan is inviting families to the museum from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday for Free Family Fun Day, an open-house style activity day to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.

Activity stations will be located all around the building with STEAM-based activities. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.

Planetarium doors will remain open for showings of a family favorite, “Accidental Astronauts.” Attendees and their little ones can stay for the whole show, or however long is comfortable.

Astronaut ice cream will be given out while supplies last.

This event is being sponsored in part by a grant from the Kellogg Youth Fund.

Agent Orange Riders Sat.

Agent Orange Riders will meet at noon Saturday at VFW Post 2496, 2900 Connon St., Alpena.

Meetings are open to the public, and held on the third Saturday of the month.

Wine & Food fest Sat.

The Annual Sunrise Side Wine & Food Festival will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Harrisville Harbor.

This Certified Local Food event will also feature craft brews and music.

HL prayer walk Sunday

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hubbard Lake will have an outdoor service Sunday at the pavilion at the North End Park of Hubbard Lake.

The service will be followed by a Community Prayer Walk visiting with friends and neighbors in the area, sharing the love of Christ.

This event is part of the church’s 125th anniversary celebration happening all year long. If you have questions, call Joanne at 989-255-7880.

Ocean VBS next week

Alpena Seventh-Day Adventist Church will host Vacation Bible School July 22-29 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., for ages 4 to 12.

The week’s theme will be “A Week at the Ocean.”
