Udell earns ‘Breaking Traditions’ CTE award

Carey May Udell

Carey May Udell, an Alpena High School student, recently received the Career Technical Education “Breaking Traditions” Merit Award in Lansing during an award ceremony.

Udell, a senior at AHS, is enrolled in the Agri-Science CTE program and has been actively involved all four years of high school. Nominated by her instructor for her work toward a career that is non-traditional for her gender, Udell has worked with her dad in their family business, Udell Livestock Trucking, and is considering a career as a truck driver.

Michigan Department of Education honors students that utilize career technical education opportunities to pursue life experiences to gain work experience while in high school. These students are role models for peers who may be considering such a career path.

Udell has enrolled at Alpena Community College and will start working toward a business degree at ACC in the fall.
