Alpena library kid/teen programs this week
Alpena County Library will host several programs for children and teens within the week.
Make It Take It Science Day will be offered from 10 to noon Saturday, where kids from preschool through fifth grade can come be a mad scientist. They will experience hands-on fun doing experiments and learning about science. No registration is necessary.
On Monday, Teen Movie Night for ages 13 to 18 will be at 6:30 p.m., showing a film adapted from the bestselling novel by Angie Thomas, “The Hate U Give.” Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right. The film is rated PG-13, and runs 2 hours, 13 minutes.
Then on Thursday, after-school fun is planned with the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Wind Chime project for grades 3 to 5. Come share a meal and create a colorful wind chime from keys. Registration is required for this program by calling 989-356-6188, ext. 14.
