Katie Jacquemin of Alpena and Luis Benitez of St. Louis announce their engagement.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Dr. Walt Jacquemin and Barbara Jacquemin of Alpena. Katie grew up in Alpena and was very active with sailing and the Bike and Boot Club. Her love of adventure took her to Colorado after school where she currently is a director at The Arrabelle, a luxury boutique hotel in Vail, Colo.

The future groom is the son of Rosanna and Ramiro Benitez. Luis also was drawn to Colorado for adventure after scaling the highest peaks on the planet as a director of operations for an international mountain guiding service and The Outward Bound School. He currently champions organizational development for Vail Resorts.

Sailing 1,400 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from Virginia to the British Virgin Islands in November, Luis proposed on the deck surrounded by dolphins, and Katie said yes. The couple will exchange their wedding vows June 29, 2014 on Mackinac Island at St. Anne’s Church.
