The Alcona High School varsity girls basketball team topped Charleton Heston Academy 48-25 on Thursday at Alcona High. Top scorers for Alcona included Gracyn Tracy, who had 12 points, Rilee Tracy and Elliyana Grimshaw, who each had 10, and Joanna Steiner, who had nine. Isabella Bravata added three. Hanna Reuchenski and Twyla Barton each had two. The Alcona girls play next at Rogers City on Monday.

Alpena High School freshman Haley Stenz led the way for the girls wrestling team with a third-place finish in the 110-pound weight class at the Midland Girls Wrestling Invitational. The tournament was the largest event that the girls have competed in so far this season and represented top wrestlers from across the state. Stenz finished the day with four wins and one loss, including three pins and one technical fall by a score of 19-3 in the third-place final match.
