Stop ignoring the obvious north side problem

The recent article discussing the challenges of north side businesses in Alpena ignores the obvious deterrent to residential foot traffic and economic development — Decorative Panels Inc. (DPI). As a new property owner on the north side, I am disheartened by the community’s inaction in addressing the foul smell emanating from DPI. Elected leaders need to strengthen SNAP

While families in our area are struggling with the rising costs of food and trying to provide healthy meals for their children to eat, extremist Republicans in Washington, D.C. are proposing massive cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or food stamps)—the key program helping millions put food on the table. Alpena animal control needs to be left alone

Our County Board of Commissioners recently made a disappointing revelation. Talks have been going on that could transfer the housing of animals in the charge of our “Animal Control Shelter” to a local “protection shelter”. Spring is here. As a snowbird returning to her roots of Alpena soon, I’m looking forward to this season once again. I have experienced so many springs. As usual I am still thrilled by its arrival. No matter if its coming is dragged out or immediate, I can count on the season of spring year after year. I plan for it. I love experiencing the firsts of spring. I have three grandsons and a son-in-law that work on the road every day, so please slow down when you see flashing lights and yellow or red lights. Make a difference, please clean your yards

Spring is just around the corner. Just a reminder to the residents of Alpena to take stock of their yards as during the winter they may have become cluttered and if the city follows up on the debris ordinance and cites the junk vehicle properties it’s sure to make a difference in your neighborhood as we don’t need the eyesore.
