Gilbert Rubio, Jr., 89, of Alpena passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland. Gilbert was born in Cameron, Texas to the late Gilbert and Eloise (Cardena) Rubio on Oct. 15, 1933. On Dec. 5, 1957, he married Wilma Nichols. Gil served in the United States Army for 27 years. He served in the Special Forces as a Green Beret for 17 of those years, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Purple Hearts. Eleanor Elaine Hoppe, 82, of Alpena passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland. Eleanor Elaine Wieschowski was born in Posen on Dec. 28, 1939, to the late Lucille and John Lesneskie, raised by her grandparents, Anthony and Mathilda Wieschowski and when she was 8 years old went to live with Della and Steve Donajkowski. She married Louis Hoppe on June 30, 1956. He preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1986. She was a member of All Saints Parish, and actively supported All Saints School through its ticket sales. Joann Renee Wirgau, 86, of Alpena passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at Orchard Manor in Posen. Joann Renee Irish was born in Detroit on Sept. 22, 1936, to the late Willard and Helen (Granthen) Irish. She married Charles Wirgau on April 27, 1957. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2016. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, bird watching, and spending time in her flower gardens. Ronald F. Werner, 90, of Alpena passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at Turning Brook assisted living facility. Ron was born Dec. 25, 1931, to the late Martin and Gretchen (Weise) Werner. In 1951, he married Donna L. Sharp who preceded him in death in 2009. Ron retired from Fletcher Paper Company where he was part of their management team.
