Nicholas F. Wittman, Jr passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 6, 2022 with his girls at his side. Nick was born on Oct. 29, 1950 to Nicholas and Johanna (Bachman) Wittman Sr in Detroit, Michigan. He married Kathleen Richardson on Jan. 10, 1970 in Sebewaing, Michigan. They moved to Hillman in 1974. Nick’s favorite things in life were farming and trucking. Hans W. Hatopp died peacefully in line with his love of numbers at 7:22pm, on 7/22/2022. He was born in 1932 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, to George and Marie Hatopp, who emigrated from Germany. He spent his career as a math and drafting professor at Alpena Community College. He moved his young family from Clintonville, Wisconsin to Alpena in the early 1960s, building a life in the Lake Huron town with his late former wife, Barb Stoy and his four children. Our community sadly lost an important member of the Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary on July 25, 2022. With sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Captain Spencer W. Cootware of Naples, Florida. Spencer was born Feb. 13, 1961, in Tupper Lake, New York to the late Harold and Lillian Cootware. Spencer was a flight attendant with Delta Airlines for 25 years.
