Etherton reaches 1,000 career points; Hurons win in OT

OSCODA--Entering Friday's game vs. Whittemore-Prescott, Oscoda senior Katelyn Etherton needed a big night to reach a special career milestone.
She got one.
Etherton scored 26 points to become just the second Oscoda girls basketball player to score 1,000 career points and the Oscoda girls basketball team remained perfect on the season after beating the Cardinals 60-29.
Etherton needed 25 entering Friday's game and finished the night with 26 to bring her career total to 1,001. Izzy Hulverson and Lauren Langley each had 12 points for Oscoda and Brooke Nowiski added seven in the winning effort.
Oscoda is 4-0 in North Star League play and plays at Posen on Thursday.
Rogers City 44,
Alcona 43, OT
ROGERS CITY--Karissa Rabeau scored 10 points, Kyley LaFleche added nine and the Rogers City girls basketball team edged Alcona 44-43 in overtime on Friday.
Alcona (5-4) led 9-7 after one quarter, but trailed 20-15 at halftime and 29-26 after three quarters. The Tigers fought back to tie the game 40-40 at the end of regulation, but Rogers City ultimately came out the victor in overtime.
Rogers City is 6-3 overall and 5-0 in North Star League play and hosts Au Gres on Tuesday.
"It was a very tough game to lose after coming back from 12 down about halfway through the third. We had a poor shooting night and missed several easy shots," Alcona coach Mark Feldhiser said. "Just one of those games where we couldn't get going on offense."
"While I am proud of the way our girls fought back, we need to start playing four quarters and do a better job in late game situations. We will take the positive from this an move on."
Alcona was led by Megan Grove with 16 points, Rachel Layton had 9 and Faith Wallenmaier had seven.
Alcona hosts Fairview on Monday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Alcona 58, Tawas 47
TAWAS--Aidan Wrobel scored 15 points and the Alcona boys basketball got back on a winning track Friday with a 58-47 win over Tawas.
Antavius Mikazes added 14 points for the Tigers (4-6), who snapped a five-game losing streak.
Alcona led 13-10 after one quarter, 26-18 at halftime and 42-36 after three quarters.
Damion Stewart added 11 points for Alcona and Cam Groff led the Braves with 22 points.
"It was a much-needed win tonight. The boys played a little rough in the first half but cleaned it up in the second half," Alcona coach Ryan Bilbey said.
Alcona plays at Fairview on Tuesday.
Atlanta 53, Hale JV 46
ATLANTA--Trace Juergens scored 13 points, Jaden Woods added 10 and the Atlanta boys basketball team won its fourth straight game on Friday, beating Hale's JV team 53-46.
Atlanta (8-3) has won five of its last six games and hosts Oscoda's JV team on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
