SAULT STE. MARIE -- The Alpena Community College men's and women's basketball teams traveled to Lake Superior State University on Monday and were both victorious.
The ACC men edged the Lakers by a final score of 90-85.
"It was a nail biter throughout the game. Even though it was a little too close for comfort, tonight's win was exactly what the doctor ordered," ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. "Lake State moved down a few underclassmen from the varsity for tonight's game and they showed why they are playing Division 2 basketball."
The Lumberjacks were led by Logan Guenther who recorded a monster double-double with 32 points and 11 rebounds. Tim Hopkins finished with 15 points, Tristan 'Big Country' Smith scored 14 points and ripped down 10 rebounds. Cam DeCaire collected 10 points and Isaac Hogsett had a superb all-around game with nine points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals in the win.
"We'll enjoy the win tonight and get back at it hard tomorrow for practice to prepare for Wednesday's game against a nationally ranked top 10 team in Mott Community College," Jacobs said.
The ACC women came away with a dominant performance and huge win over LSSU JV on Monday, winning by a score of 69-20.
Taylor Livingston and Kyra Feighner paced Alpena with 15 points apiece and Shelby Seaver recorded a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
"The girls played well as a team tonight. The girls played well enough to win and did some good things on the offensive end," ACC coach Bobby Allen said. "We had 13 steals as a team. Jasmyn (Schultz) and Emma (Jore) did a good job with distributing the ball."
Schultz dished out five assists and Jore had six steals in the winning effort.
The women will also be in action on Saturday when they host Mott Community College.
