ALPENA — Alpena police on Thursday morning responded to a report of an unresponsive man found lying on the side of Woodward Avenue just south of Hamilton Road in Alpena.

Arriving on the scene, officers found the man dead.

A news release from the Alpena Police Department did not specify when they think the man died.

Police identified the man as a 47-year-old Alpena resident but did not release his name.

Police did not specify the manner of the man’s death but said they do not suspect foul play. Their investigation into the death continues.

Police closed a portion of Woodward Avenue on Thursday morning for the investigation.

The Alpena Fire Department assisted the Alpena Police Department with their response, and members of the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit were at the scene to offer support.

Northeast Michigan police have reported discoveries of several other bodies in the Alpena area this summer.

Police said they did not suspect foul play in the death of an elderly woman found deceased in the Thunder Bay River by a city worker checking sprinklers in Washington Avenue Park on July 21.

On Aug. 17, Alcona County police responded to a report of a man’s body found in a vehicle in a Lincoln parking lot in Alcona County. Police later said the man died by suicide.

Four days later, a rescue effort for a man who fell and disappeared into the Thunder Bay River near the 2nd Avenue bridge turned into a recovery when the man did not emerge from the water for more than an hour.

Divers eventually pulled the man’s body from the river, where it was found under 20 feet of water.
