Two local FIRST Robotics teams have earned enough points to qualify for this week’s state FIRST Robotics Championship at Saginaw Valley State University. Team 5505 from Alpena High School and Team 7823 from Rogers City High School are competing in the three-day tournament, according to a news release from Alpena High School, which recently hosted two district robotics contests.

The championship contest begins Thursday and runs through Saturday.

Team 5505 was the area’s top qualifier after the district competitions tournaments. They were the Alpena #2 District Tournament runner-up and Alliance captain and won the Gracious Professional Award at the Alpena #1 District Tournament.

Team 7823 won the Rookie All-Star Award, Highest Rookie Seed, and Rookie Inspiration Award at their district matches. Team 5505 and Alpena Team 5230 have been working with Rogers City since the beginning of the season to assist them in building their robot and preparing them for competition.
