Police: Man arrested at home after failing to stop

An allegedly intoxicated driver had to be subdued by Michigan State Police troopers after fleeing into his home in Alpena Township on April 1, police said in a news release.

Observing lane violations, a trooper signaled a traffic stop to Wayne Kalis, 38, of Alpena, who instead continued to the driveway of his nearby residence.

Exiting the vehicle, Kalis fled into the residence. Disregarding verbal commands to stop, Kalis was eventually subdued inside the residence after backup had arrived.

Troopers found evidence Kalis was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, had prior operating while intoxicated convictions, and was driving without a valid driver’s license. He was arrested and subsequently arraigned in the 88th District Court.
