The Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union was awarded the 2017 Governor's Service Award in the Corporate Community Leader Award category by the Michigan Community Service Commission. Marketing Specialist Alison Jakubcin accepted the honor for AAACU Monday during the award ceremony at the Detroit Opera House.
Throughout 2016 AAACU brought financial education to more than 600 students with Teen Financial Reality Fairs, donated over $20,000 to 23 community organization from fundraising events and team members spent over 500 hours volunteering in the communities they serve. AAACU's embodiment of the credit union philosophy of "people helping people" and dedication to building more vibrant and financially strong communities through their community reinvestment efforts were key factors in being selected to receive The Corporate Community Leader Award.
The Governor's Service Awards were established in 1994 to pay tribute to outstanding volunteers who demonstrate the power of giving and caring every day throughout Michigan. The Corporate Community Leader Award honors businesses that excel in community involvement and demonstrate excellent corporate citizenship by giving back to their community. This award is one of 11 different Governor's Service Awards given out.
AAACU serves members primarily in Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency, and Iosco counties with eight locations: the main office located in Alpena, with branch offices in Ossineke, Lincoln, a Tiger Branch in Alcona Community Schools, Atlanta, Oscoda, Tawas, and an additional branch in Alpena. As of May 31, 2017, AAACU provides service to 28,382 members with total assets equal to $329,226,434.
