Poetry Reading set at Art in the Loft
Susan Lane Foundation welcomes award-winning poets from around Michigan to Alpena this Saturday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for the fourth annual north45east Poetry Reading at Art in the Loft.
Foundation co-founders and siblings Anne Bastow Heraghty and Joe Bastow are gearing up for another stellar event.
“We have been thrilled with support from the community and attendance in the past. We are hoping to raise the bar even higher this year,” Heraghty said.
The foundation is a non-profit organization started with the intention of expanding literary opportunities in the area, and this reading will do its part to satisfy that mission. An impressive lineup has been secured with award-winning poets traveling from around the state to participate.
“We are very excited to have this caliber of poets and writers willing to donate time and travel to share their work with our community,” Bastow said. “Each year we have new work being shared and new participants for our event. This year, Alison Swan and Christina Kallery will do well to join the keen talents of returning poets David James, Keith Taylor and Dennis Hinrichsen. Anne and I will read a couple of our own pieces, as well.”
Authors’ books will be on hand for purchase, and poets will be available for conversation and signing during the intermission. SLF has chosen Art in the Loft year after year for its cool ambiance and central location.
“It’s awesome to share poetry surrounded by all these other art forms,” Heraghty said.
The event will also feature live music by Conor Larkin and snacks from the Fresh Palate, as well as a cash bar.
Tickets can be purchased ahead for $10 at Art in the Loft and Blue Phoenix Books, or by emailing the foundation at susanlanefoundation@gmail.com.
