The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library will host An Evening of Pre-War Blues Music event on March 19 at 5:30 p.m.

This event is a musical and historical survey of the blues from the turn of the 20th century until World War II.

This event covers acoustic blues music from Blind Lemon Jefferson to Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and more. Singer-songwriter and composer Nick Veine’s presentation touches on the longstanding tradition of the disenfranchisement of people of African descent, how that mistreatment created the Pre-War Blues, and the mark left on American Music and art.

Nick Veine is a singer-songwriter and composer born and raised in Manistee. He grew up playing rock and blues before he started singing, then pivoting to acoustic music. His passion encouraged him to attend Berklee College of Music, where he earned his Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Writing and Production as well as a Minor in American Roots Music before completing his Master of Music in Classical Composition at Belmont University.

This event is free and open to the public.
