Alpena boy’s swim team win in Oscoda

On Thursday, the boys Alpena Wildcat varsity swim team traveled to Oscoda and opened the season with an impressive 98-81 victory and there were strong performances by the Wildcats across the board. Joshua Short swam a first in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, Drew McConnell received a first in the 100-yard freestyle and 100- yard breaststroke and Alex Winfield earned first place in the 50-yard freestyle and second in the 100-yard butterfly. HILLMAN- In an early season test between two undefeated teams, Hillman remained undefeated defeating Posen 70-57 at home in front of a packed house in Hillman on Thursday. The Hillman girls varsity basketball team moved to 1-2 on the season following a 50-21 loss at the hands of the Tawas Area Braves. Despite the defensive pressure from the Braves, the Tigers saw a strong individual performance from Kendall Gruschke, who led the team in both scoring and rebounding with seven points and seven rebounds. GRAYLING – The Alpena Wildcats varsity boys basketball team earned a hard-fought road win on Tuesday, as it defeated Grayling 50-45.
