WEST BRANCH - Sam Bastow scored a pair of goals and Joe LaCross added a goal and two assists as the Alpena Wildcats boy’s soccer team defeated the Ogemaw Heights Falcons 3-1 on Saturday in boys soccer.
LaCross opened the scoring with an unassisted goal about 15 minutes into the match. Ogemaw Heights evened the score at 1 on a set play. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the first half, LaCross found Bastow for a goal that gave Alpena a 2-1 lead at the break.
The second half featured back-and-forth action until LaCross crossed the ball to Bastow, who finished, pushing the lead to 3-1.
Jayden Crandall finished with 10 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
"It was a physical, well-played match," Alpena coach Ken Dragiewicz said. "Joe LaCross had another big game with 3 points. Sam Bastow has been fighting an injury, and it was good to see him get back on the scoreboard with 2 goals."
